From the alternator to the battery to the spark plugs, these small parts must work in sync in order to get everything started.
Read moreCar batteries usually last anywhere from 1 to 5 years depending on the battery type and the conditions under which the battery has been operating under. If your car is driven mainly in the city or on frequent short trips, this could reduce the life of your battery. A regular battery test is recommended to help avoid the inconvenience of being caught out with a flat battery. We are located in Slacks Creek and service customers in the surrounding areas as well.
Lack of use - A wet cell battery needs regular charging. This charge is provided by the vehicle alternator, which is powered by the engine. Quite simply, if the engine is not running, the battery is not receiving any charge. As long as the car is being run fairly often the battery can be continuously recharged and ready for use. But if the car isn't being run often, or is only ever run on very short trips, then the battery will drain over time and won't have enough power to start the engine.
Bad terminal connection - The battery terminals are the lead conductor posts where the battery is connected to the car via the battery cables. If the clamps that connect the terminals become loose then the battery might not receive enough charge from the alternator or conversely, the starter motor may not be able to draw enough power from the battery
Corrosion - Corrosion can cause a bad electrical connection. As corrosion develops on any electrical system components, there is less metal to metal contact and therefore it becomes harder for power to transfer from the battery to the starter. If you're having battery problems, check your connections to see if they're corroded and of so then have them cleaned.
Alternator problems - The alternator powers the entire electrical system of the car once it is started. It also recharges the battery as well. So if your alternator is going bad, not only will your battery not recharge fully, but your car might die on you while driving because you aren't generating the electrical power required to run the vehicle.
